Q Where are you located?
A We are located at the Avalon Boat landing. We are the first booth toward town on the water when you disembark the ferry.
Q What are your hours?
A We are open daily April through September.
April, May and Sept - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
June, July and Aug - 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Q Do we need reservations for rentals?
A Typically rentals are first come first served unless you have a large group. If we happen to be sold out when you are ready to go, we can hold the next available equipment for you.
Q Do you have lockers?
A We don’t have lockers at our booth. There are lockers near us at the boat terminal or we are happy to hold onto your belongings when you rent from us.
Q How old do I have to be to rent?
A Renters must be 18 years of age or have the release form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Q We have never kayaked before, do we need experience?
A Our sit on top kayaks are very user friendly and easy to use. We provide instruction as well as a life jacket, no experience is necessary.
Q Will I get wet kayaking?
A Yes, you will get wet from the waist down.
Q I have kayaked before and not gotten wet, why will I get wet?
A Our sit on top kayaks have self draining scupper holes. You will be sitting in a bit of water and will get wet from the waist down.
Q Can I take my phone or camera on the kayak?
A We don’t recommend taking anything you don’t want to get wet. We are happy to take a picture of you on your way out and hold onto your phone or camera until you return.
Q I don’t know how to swim, can I kayak?
A Kayaking is not recommended for people who don’t swim.
Q Is there a weight limit on the kayaks?
A Yes, it is outlined below:
Single kayak 250 lbs.
Double kayak 375 lbs
Glass bottom kayak 400 lbs
Stand up kayak 225 lbs
Q Where can we kayak to?
A From our location you can paddle East toward Seal Rock or West towards Long Point. Depending on how long you want to paddle and the conditions, we will show you by map the best options.
Q Can we land the kayaks?
A The only kayak that can not land is the Glass bottom kayak. This is due to our rocky beaches. All other kayaks can be beached and we will gladly show you the best places to do so.
Q Do you rent double glass bottom kayaks?
A There are no double glass bottom kayaks. The glass bottom kayak is only made in a single model. There is room for a small child in a jump seat facing the paddler.
Q What is a stand up Kayak?
A A Stand up Kayak is similar to a stand up paddle board but it is made out of durable plastic, the same material the kayaks are made from. This allows landing on the rocky beaches.
Q Why can't I book a kayak for one hour online?
A Hourly rentals are first come first served, just come up when ready to paddle. We have kayaks in our inventory set aside for walk ups. If we are sold out, we can hold the next available kayak for you.
Q The time I want to book online is sold out, what should I do?
Q Where is the best place to snorkel?
A Lovers Cove Marine Preserve is just a 3 minute walk from our booth and the best snorkeling on Catalina.
Q How far is it to Lovers Cove?
A Lovers Cove is right next to Avalon Bay, it is a 3 minute walk from our booth.
Q Do I need to know how to swim to snorkel?
A Definitely, yes. You need to know how to swim to snorkel.
Q What will I see snorkeling?
A In Lovers Cove you will see plenty of Garibaldi, Opaleye and Calico Bass. You will also see amazing kelp forests and might catch a glimpse of Sheephead, sea bass or lobster.
Q Can I feed the fish in Lovers Cove Marine Preserve?
A The fish in Lovers Cove are fed throughout the day by the glass bottom boats. You will see plenty of fish without feeding them yourself. If you choose to feed them, use caution as they may bite.
Q Why can't I book snorkel gear online?
Q What type of SUP do you rent?
A We use the Odyssey Tour model, it is 11’ long and 32” wide.
Q Is there a weight limit on the SUP?
A The weight limit is 220 lbs.
Q I have never tried stand up paddling is it easy?
A Our SUPs are very stable and user friendly.
Q Where can we paddle to?
A You can paddle the SUP East toward Seal Rock or West toward Long Point.
Q Can we land the SUP?
A Due to the rocky beaches we do not allow landing of the stand up paddle boards. If you want to land, we recommend the stand up kayak.
Q What will we see from the SUP?
A From the vantage point of standing on water you are able to see amazingly well into our crystal clear waters. You will see kelp forests, Garibaldi, Perch and Bass and may see Leopard Sharks, Sand Sharks or Bat Rays.
Q Why can't I book a stand up paddle board for one hour online?

Q Do you offer group discounts?
A Groups of 10 or more will get a 10% discount.
Q Do we need reservations for our group?
A Yes, reservations are recommended at least 2 weeks in advance. This guarantees your group will have the equipment needed to go out together.
Q We have a large group but we all don’t want to go at the same time, can you accommodate us?
A We can accommodate your group individually based on availability. Your group can sign in and do their activity individually throughout the day. We will total all rentals at the end of the day and deduct 10% from the total.
Q We have 50 people that want to kayak and snorkel, can you accommodate us?
A For large groups (over 30) we would need to split the group in two. Half would kayak while the other half snorkels then the groups would switch activities.
Q Why do you only offer 24 hour rentals at Little Harbor?
A We rent to the Little Harbor camper. We are based in Avalon and Little Harbor is an hour drive for us each way. We set you up one day and pick up the next.
Q What if I want to rent a kayak earlier than noon?
A We begin our 24 hour rental at Little Harbor at noon
to coincide with the safari bus schedule and to allow renters to enjoy the afternoon and an early morning paddle.
Early morning drop off may be available at an additional ½ day rate, then ½ day rate will apply to all days.
Q We arrive in the afternoon on Friday and leave early morning Sunday, can we get the kayak early Saturday morning?
A Kayaks are guaranteed noon – noon. We do offer ½ day rates if you rent for more than one day. By paying for two ½ days, your kayak would be there when you arrive Friday afternoon and you would have it all day Saturday. You might even have time for an early morning paddle before you leave on Sunday.
Q Where can we paddle to from Little Harbor?
A You can paddle out of Little Harbor and up or down the coast. You cannot land at any other beach. Little Harbor is
a calm bay but all other beaches have surf. Landing is prohibited on any other beach on the backside.
Q Can I call from Little Harbor and get a kayak the same day?
A If you call from Little Harbor upon arrival, kayaks will
be delivered the next day. We need 24 hour advance reservations in order to staff an employee to make the
hour drive there and the hour drive back.
Q Why can't I book a SUP at Little Harbor?
A We do not offer Stand up Paddle Boards at Little Harbor at this time due to lack of inventory.
